commercial catch up

2nd June 2020

This weeks commercial catch up shows the Jones family Mid-Wales

Davy Jones farms a mixed unit in Wales, farming mainly beef and sheep. This large scale system farms both on owned land and contract farmed ground. Sheep numbers vary but are in the many of thousands.

The main breeds of ewe revolve around the Brecknock type Cheviot. This breed originated from Scottish Cheviots that were then bred to survive and thrive in open hillsides in Wales.

The jones family buy Fronteira rams from us annually. They are crossed onto the cheviots to produce a larger more prolific ewe to make best use of the better ground that they farm.

These mule type females are then tupped with continental rams which are either homebred or Durnos.

We have had a great working relationship with the family for years and select all their rams ouselves and deliver to farm within the price.
